Pause, Breathe, Smile

Image
This week as a part of our Pause, Breathe, Smile Program we are exploring 'happiness' and what that looks and feels like. The children shared what made them happy and we sorted them into categories using a venn diagram. We talked about 'Peace Happiness' and 'Treat Happiness' - how they make you feel and how long the happiness actually lasts. The children then wrote a sentence about what makes them happy.

Ahuriri and Huritini hosted assembly!

Today our children hosted the full school assembly. We had so much fun sharing our learning and especially our song mahunga, Pakihiwi, puku, hope, waewae (heads, shoulders, knees and toes).  Congratulations to our tamariki who received assembly certificates.  These are our awesome presenters.                                                                                                                                    These are the special tamariki who received certificates.

Today T11 enjoyed doing one of their Life Education activities with the help of their big buddies. It is always lots of fun working with our big friends!

Pause, Breathe, Smile

Image
This week in Whio we have started our Pause, Breathe, Smile programme. We are learning how to be mindful and to 'be in the moment'. Using a mindfulness bell the children have been doing special breathing (straight-back-soft belly) and mindful movements. One of the real highlights for the children was when we did some mindful eating with chocolate (or raisins)! The children had to think about the texture and appearance of the uneaten food, colours and smells. They had to pay attention to bodily sensations (especially in the mouth) in response to looking at and smelling the food. Then they got to taste!  We will be continuing with our Pause, Breathe, Smile lessons each week for the rest of the term.  Mindful breathing   Mindful Movements Mindful Eating

Life Education visit with Harold

Image
This week we have all had 2 sessions with Harold and Keri, the Life Education teacher . We have been learning about healthy food and what happens in our body when we eat food. Not only did learn a lot but we had lots of fun dancing with Harold and singing along with his songs.

Te Whare Tapa Whā

Image
Te Whare Tapa Whā, which translates as 'the house with four walls', is a model for wellbeing. Each wall represents a different aspect of health and wellbeing- physical/tinana, family/whānau, spiritual/wairua and emotional/hinengaro. We need to look after each of these to be happy and healthy.  This week the tamariki explored what each of the four 'walls' meant to them. Each T group has created their own display of their Te Whare Tapa Whā.   We will continue to talk about Te Whare Tapa Whā throughout the term as we explore mindfulness through the  Pause Breathe Smile programme .
