El Gregoe

Image
We were so lucky to have El Gregoe come and visit us today. He shared some magic tricks, his special birds and optical illusions, which we would all love to know 'HOW' he did it? - It was cool to see Rosie being El Gregoe's volunteer. El Gregoe had some great messages for the children - he shared five values - Caring, Responsible, Respectful, Acceptance and Trust. He also talked about using your WITS if you come across a tricky situation. W - Walk away I - Ignore T - Talk to someone S - Say STOP We think this is a great tool for our children to use when they are navigating their way through play and any situations that may arise.

Finding Tuna (eels) at Nottingham Stream

Image
T10's reflections: Alexia - I touched an eel. It was soft and squishy and it was cool. Indie - I liked the temperature. It was really cold.  Maddie - Cold water is good for the tuna because hot makes them sick and they could even die. Mason - When we were at the stream I liked teaching the eels. Shlok - I liked doing the insect thing. I found a snail. Lexi - I liked looking through the tube at the water clarity. It was poor. That means it wasn't good. Shylah - I liked doing the temperature as well and the number was 15. Jason - I liked the tuna. Izma - I liked touching the eels and the temperature. The eels were slimy and squishy and the temperature was on 10.  Vaughan - I liked the temperature. I got up to 15.66.  Rosie - I liked the bugs because we found 4 snails.  Isabella - I liked looking for the bugs because I found 2 worms.  Rei - The tuna was slimy. Sophia - I liked the temperature.  Ben - I liked touching the eels because it felt like slime.  ...

Whio's visit to Nottingham Stream

Image
Today the children from Whio visited the Nottingham Stream to see the Long Fin Tuna (eels). Jenny (our Facilitator from Te Tuna Taone) had been down to the awa (stream) the night before and set an eel trap (that did not harm the eels). Overnight 3 tuna swam into the net, 2 were long fin tuna that we then transferred to a tank for the children to see.  We completed 3 activities with the help of 6 wonderful senior students and Jenny. At Station 1 the children got to carefully touch a tuna and we learnt about the stream and how they live. Station 2 look at water clarity (the water quality was poor) and Station 3 was studying little creatures from the stream.    This was the net that Jenny used to catch the eels last night.                                                  We had the best morning and want to thank all our wonderful parent helpers w...

Using our 'Maths Eyes'

Image
Today in maths we used our maths eyes to look at a tuna picture. We were amazed at the great ideas the children came up with about what they could see.  Here is the image: Here are some of the children sharing their ideas: These are the ideas Miss Craddock recorded on the whiteboard as we shared.

We are loving reading on EPIC!
