We can show numbers in so many ways

Image
This week in maths the children have been working with their buddies. On Thursday they had to make '6' with different maths equipment around the studio, once they had shown us their creative ways to the this we set them the challenge of doubling it to make '12'. Here are some of their fabulous ideas:

We have had a very busy morning in Huritini having lots of fun together. We have been making, painting, climbing, role playing, building, performing and much, much more!

Olympic Gold for New Zealand!

Image
Yesterday we had a very excited group of children watching the New Zealand women's rowing pair win New Zealand's first gold medal at the Olympics. Grace Prendergast, one of the rowers, is a past pupil of Halswell School. The children liked being able to sing along with the national anthem when it was played. We are all super proud of Grace!

Happy Matariki/ End of Term Celebration

Image
We are so proud of all the tamariki this term and how hard they have worked leading up to the production. Today we celebrated our term and Matariki by making a vegetable soup and the children wearing their pjs. The children helped chopped the vegetables and waited patiently as the delicious smell wafted through the studio. Thank you for supplying the vegetables, we really appreciate it. Each child made their own lantern, they listened carefully to instructions and we think they did a great job! Mr McCallum also shared two Matariki stories with the Whio studio. We think it was the perfect way to end a very special term.
