Friday Fun Day

Image
Every second Friday in Huritini we have 'Open Door Friday', this is a chance for the Whio children to visit and play with their Ti Kouka friends. Here are some photos of the children playing, baking pikelets with Miss Craddock and the fabulous Mrs Townsend popped in for a visit to decorate our sun hats.

Kapa Haka

We are so lucky to have Kapa Haka each Monday this term with our Kapa Haka tutors - Matua Willy and Whaea Tania. This is a chance for us to learn and practise special waiata. Today the boys got to use rākau sticks and the girls learned a waiata involving poi. The children were engaged and showed respect during our session. Today was extra special as we participated in a minute silence to remember what happened in the 2011 earthquake, we then followed the moment of silence with a special waiata that we sing as a whole school.

Working with a buddy

Image
This week during maths time the children are working alongside a maths buddy and we will be focusing on what 'makes a good maths buddy.' This will help us set up our expectations for the rest of the year. Today the children had to show different ways to make/ represent the number 5. It was great to see our older children step up and model this with the younger children. The children worked really well with their buddies, active listening and working as a team.

Huritini Art Mural

Image
This week in Huritini we have all been creating fish works of art. The children have created a fish with their own photo for the head. Together the fish have been used to make a mural in our blue room. The mural has a special message-  "We may be different kinds of fish but in Huritini we all swim together".  Here are a few photos of the children adding colour to their designs and then of the completed mural.
