Kapa Haka

We are so lucky to have Kapa Haka each Monday this term with our Kapa Haka tutors - Matua Willy and Whaea Tania.

This is a chance for us to learn and practise special waiata. Today the boys got to use rākau sticks and the girls learned a waiata involving poi.

The children were engaged and showed respect during our session. Today was extra special as we participated in a minute silence to remember what happened in the 2011 earthquake, we then followed the moment of silence with a special waiata that we sing as a whole school.

Ahuriri Visits

Each year the Ahuriri children come to visit the Whio studio. They get to have a look at our space, play with our equipment and their old friends from Ahuriri and meet their possible teachers for next year. It was amazing to see the Whio children being such role models today and really looking after our visitors. We are so proud of them. The Ahuriri children will come for a few more studio visits before the end of the year.

Te Whare Tapa Whā

 Te Whare Tapa Whā, which translates as 'the house with four walls', is a model for wellbeing. Each wall represents a different aspect of health and wellbeing- physical/tinana, family/whānau, spiritual/wairua and emotional/hinengaro. We need to look after each of these to be happy and healthy.  This week the tamariki explored what each of the four 'walls' meant to them. Each T group has created their own display of their Te Whare Tapa Whā.   We will continue to talk about Te Whare Tapa Whā throughout the term as we explore mindfulness through the  Pause Breathe Smile programme .
